Arrival Dismissal
Traffic Protocol
Safety is a priority on our campus. Please read through the very important safety information and guidelines as they relate to morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal procedures, ensuring the safest routes for our students. As a result of cooperative brainstorming between the Lemont Police Department and school personnel, the following traffic patterns have been established for a safe route in and out of the schools.
As a friendly reminder, the doors to the school do not open until 8:45 a.m. and no supervision is provided until this time. If you park and walk your students up to the building, it is highly encouraged that you wait with your student/s until the River Valley Staff is outside and welcomes everyone in. When utilizing the car rider line, please wait until you are in proximity of the front entrance before having your student/s exit the vehicle. Lastly, unless you have a handicap placard or designated handicap license plate, no vehicle should park in these reserved areas to drop off their student/s.
Thank you for your time and cooperation in this matter.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Routines
River Valley Students AM Drop-Off and PM Pick-Up Routine
River Valley students should be dropped off and picked up following the pattern below:
- Enter the drop-off/pick-up lane from 127th Street only and follow the traffic flow to the right This will take you through the circle drive in front of the building.
- In an effort to keep cars from backing up out onto 127th Street, cars coming in off of 127th Street will be “doubling-up” in part of the circle drive if needed. Please pay close attention to our staff as they will guide you along the right path.
- When you come to the area in the circle drive where we merge to one lane, please patiently allow for the entrance of cars to come into the single lane.
- Students should enter/exit vehicles at the curb in front of the school (see map for details) along the drop-off and pick-up route.
- We ask that while you are waiting, please do not leave your car unattended. There must be a driver in the car at all times.
- When you pull into the circle, you will be asked to pull all the way up. This will occur in all seasons. We ask that you pull all the way up so that we can get as many cars as possible in line.
- Once your child is out of your car, we ask that you drive forward, allowing the next group of cars to come through. Please do not stay to watch your child into the building, this slows the traffic flow down.
- As you leave on 127th Street, we ask that you only turn right to keep traffic moving. Staff members will be stationed all along the sidewalk. They are there to help students safely get to and from their cars and into school. It is their goal to move cars as safely and quickly as possible. Please pay close attention to the directions they give you. Please do not drop your child off in any parking lot as our lots are not designated walk zones and there is no supervision in our parking lots.
River Valley and Oakwood Siblings Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- RV students with Oakwood siblings will be dropped off and picked up by Door 21 by Oakwood. You will need to enter onto Kim Place from Keepataw Street. You will continue driving past the entrance of the school and drop your students off by Door 21. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m.
- Once your child has exited your vehicle, you will be directed to continue along the drive to the stop sign at Una Street to leave Oakwood School.
- Additionally, should traffic back up on Kim Place, we ask that you do not block private driveways and fire hydrants. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
- All students with siblings that are picked-up will be picked up in front of Oakwood School by Door 21. River Valley siblings will meet with Oakwood siblings in the River Valley hallway or gym. They will exit the building through Door 22 at 3:25 p.m. We ask once again that parents remain in their vehicles. Students will be led to the front of Oakwood and guided to their cars. Staff will be outside assisting students as necessary.
